Code for Africa (CfA) is actively seeking a full-time Engagement Deputy Programme Manager to join our engagement team. We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record in project or program management, a passion for technology and communication, and exceptional multitasking abilities. Team management skills are crucial, and candidates familiar with design and content production will have an advantage.

The successful candidate will manage the daily operations of the engagement team, which includes coordinating two sub-teams and ensuring efficient collaboration and goal achievement. The two sub teams focus on the creation of content and design assets for CfA’s sites, blogs and social media channels, as well as social media management and the promotion of CfA’s in-house talent, events and impact stories.

The role will be for an English-speaking deputy programme manager. Proficiency in local African languages and any additional international languages, such as Arabic or French, will be advantageous.

Required: minimum requirements include:

  • At least five years in a programme management or communication function, preferably within the NGO, media or tech sectors.
  • A thorough understanding of digital communication production pipelines, that help the team oversee and improve the development of blogs, graphics, design, video, podcasts and written communications including long and short form copy.
  • Experience with knowledge and task management systems such as AirTable or Monday.com.
  • Demonstrable experience as a communication manager, and an understanding of project management methodologies and practices. 
  • A track record of digital campaigns that resulted in increased brand visibility, audience engagement, and measurable impact.
  • An understanding of metrics, analytics and tracking tools to measure the success of engagement initiatives.
  • Capacity to juggle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to work in a fast paced deadline driven environment 

Preferred: candidates who are able to demonstrate the following will have an advantage:

  • Proficiency in creating innovative and compelling content across multiple platforms, showcasing creativity and adaptability in digital storytelling.
  • Experience in managing and nurturing online communities, fostering engagement, and building positive relationships with diverse audiences.
  • Fluency in multiple languages, enhancing the ability to connect with diverse audiences across various regions and cultures.
  • Proficient use of social media analytics tools to track, analyse, and derive insights from engagement metrics.
  • Experience in planning and executing digital event marketing campaigns, promoting in-house talent, successes, and events effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and nurture strategic partnerships with influencers, organisations, and media outlets for mutual benefit.
  • Proven track record of optimising digital campaigns based on performance data, refining strategies for improved outcomes.
  • Awareness of and interest in emerging technologies and trends within the digital engagement landscape.
  • Ability to manage and respond effectively to communication challenges and crises, maintaining a positive brand image.
  • Familiarity with tools and methods that leverage Generative AI technologies.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will join CfA’s Engagement team and report to the Engagement Senior Programme Manager.  

As the Engagement Deputy Programme Manager, you will oversee and streamline production processes, monitor targets and quality standards, as well as metrics and analytics. In addition to overseeing day-to-day operations, you will coordinate two sub-teams within the Engagement team, ensuring efficient collaboration and goal achievement. This role requires the ability to juggle multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and contribute to the success of the team’s initiatives.

You will be playing a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s narrative and fostering meaningful connections with diverse audiences. As the Engagement Deputy Programme Manager, you will be at the forefront of driving impactful communication initiatives that leverage technology and data for positive social change.

Your responsibilities will extend beyond traditional management, encompassing a spectrum of activities vital to the team’s success. As the orchestrator of our engagement efforts, your role will be multi-faceted, encompassing production management, creative thinking, system building and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities: Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee and manage the daily production workflow of the Engagement team, ensuring tasks are prioritised and deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with the graphic and content desks to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality communication and branding materials.
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of two sub-teams within the Engagement team – one focused on design/content and the other on social media/event promotion and marketing.
  • Facilitate efficient collaboration between team members, ensuring a cohesive and streamlined approach.
  • Set clear daily targets for the Engagement team in alignment with overarching program goals.
  • Enforce and maintain high-quality standards for all communication and branding materials produced by the team.
  • Address operational challenges and implement improvements to enhance team performance.
  • Monitor key performance metrics and analytics to evaluate the success of engagement initiatives.
  • Provide regular insights and recommendations for optimising strategies based on performance and analytics data.
  • Collaborate with Code for Africa’s digital innovation teams on special projects in order to amplify their impact and outreach.
  • Facilitate coordination between the Engagement team and other departments for seamless project integration.
  • Provide support to team members, address queries, and foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Identify opportunities for skill development and growth within the Engagement team.
  • Communicate daily updates, progress, and challenges to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Contribute to talent scouting and recruitment of new personnel and collaborators
  • Prepare daily reports on key performance indicators and project statuses for program management.
