Code for Africa (CfA) has immediate vacancies for two part-time Media research fellows based in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal to join our CivicSignal team.

Candidates must know the media landscape in Côte d’Ivoire or Senegal and speak both French and English. Strong research skills are essential for this role.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multinational and multilingual team using digital collaboration tools to check and update our database. Your work will involve researching media organisations and journalists, verifying existing information, and adding new entries to create a more complete picture of the media landscape of Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.

Required: minimum requirements include:

  • Fluency in French and English
  • Familiarity with the media landscape of Côte d’Ivoire or Senegal
  • Flexible availability, with a commitment of approximately 15 hours per week
  • Background in media industry or journalism

Preferred: candidates who are able to demonstrate the following will have an advantage:

  • Familiarity with grassroots media organisations or radio stations
  • Working knowledge of Airtable and Google Sheets
  • Proficiency in local languages, such as Wolof or Dioula

About the Role:

The successful candidate will join CivicSignal’s MediaData team. The team is responsible for mapping news media organizations operating across the African continent.

You will be responsible for both verifying existing information on MediaData and expanding the database with new organizations and journalists. The project is scheduled to run for six months and will be fully remote. Training will be provided before work begins, and continuous monitoring of data entry quality will be conducted throughout the project.

Responsibilities: 

  • Finding and verifying existing information about media organizations through online searches
  • Conducting research to identify and add previously unmapped media organizations and journalists from Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire to the database
  • Reaching out to media organizations, authorities, or networks when data is unavailable online
  • Collaborating with the team through Slack for effective communication and coordination
