About the Role: Programme Assistant
As the Code for Nigeria’s Programme Assistant you will help to support our programmes, projects and community. The position is focused on assisting with programme implementation, coordinating monthly reporting and fulfilling all programme administrative needs. You will join an international team of data journalists, civic technologists, designers and developers who join forces to produce highly impactful projects across the continent and beyond. You will play a key support role and be given a breadth of responsibility and work with multiple teams across Africa and Nigeria specifically in Lagos, Abuja and Benin City.
Specific Responsibilities:
Programme Administration
- Draft fellowship contracts and amendments for the aforementioned programmes, following internal processes.
- Train and assist grantees with CfNigeria’s documentation and programmatic processes, specifically contracts, budgets, workplans, financial reports, Slack, etc
- Liaise with grantees concerning document finalisation, invoice completion, tranche and expense payments, etc.
- Review programme invoices and financial reports for programmes. Ensure documentation is completed to the highest of standard prior to sending to the Finance department.
- Create the necessary payment requisitions for programmatic expenses.
- Regularly update CfNigeria’s wiki page
- Be the liaison for the Nigerian team and Secretariat and support with finding relevant human resources and collaborators
- Oversee our programs logistics for projects, programs and events.
- Provide any other necessary support as needed
Programme Communications
- Manage all Code for Nigeria’s events, programs, projects, StoryLab Academy and Hacks/Hackers communications, including social media, Medium, Slack community channels, blogs, website and online publications.
- Support online and offline outreach activities and campaigns for CfNigeria and it’s communities’ projects, apps, tools and platforms to ensure strong visibility among the Code for Africa internal and external communities as well as publish monthly blog posts
- Support tracking of digital engagement across the Code for Nigeria projects, platforms and channels on social and digital media platforms, using relevant and best practice engagement metrics
Projects and Programs Management
- Assist Code for Africa to manage the Naija Data Ladies programme (getting stories developed and published on time, organise trainings with Data Ladies)
- Support Code for Africa and Code for Nigeria’s trainings & networking events within and external
- Support the various Code for Nigeria Projects and see them to fruition.
- Ensure all projects are properly planned, executed and delivered within set timelines and stakeholders are properly managed
- Ensure all impact stories as related to programs and projects are documented and disseminated
Ideal Qualifications:
- Proven programme and/or project assistance experience (min. 2 years of experience)
- Experience working within a nonprofit environment, preferably an international nonprofit.
- Understanding of donor funding and reporting.
- Good interpersonal skills and comfortable working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to be flexible and work in a changing, unstructured environment.
- Attentive to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritise.
- Proactive and diplomatic spirit
- Excellent organisational skills
- Perfect English proficiency (incl. Written skills)
- Works well without supervision
- Tech-savvy (i.e. Slack, Social media, Researching online, comfortable learning new tech tools)
- Passion for media, data, storytelling and technology. An interest in civic technology and digital journalism are a plus.
The position is contract based, for an initial 12 months, renewable contingent on donor funding. The successful candidate will be expected to start no later than 1st November, 2017, on an initial three month probationary contract.
