Code for Africa (CfA) has an immediate vacancy for a Project Manager to join its WanaData Network team based out of its main civic technology lab in Nairobi, Kenya on a temporary basis for 3 months. Remuneration is subject to level of experience.
About The Team
WanaData is a Pan-African Network of female journalists who are changing the digital media landscape by producing and promoting data-driven news while applying digital technologies in their storytelling. The initiative was launched in January 2018 in Kenya and is affiliated to the Naija Data Ladies. The network is now present in other Code for Africa operating countries including South Africa, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Who You Are
An energetic project manager based in Nairobi, Kenya who organises, plans and executes editorial projects and events like a pro and within deadlines. You ensure the team stays on track and you’re excited about making processes easy to follow, while requiring minimal supervision. You might be a journalist and/or have a working knowledge of how newsrooms function, which would be an advantage.
What You Will Do
- Organise monthly meetups for network members
- Manage story dockets to ensure member-journalists and fellows deliver assigned stories on time
- Work closely with data visualisation team to have accompanying infographics delivered on time for story publication
- Track published stories by network members and share/report on designated CfA platforms
- Amplify stories the WanaData network produce
- Pull together weekly reports and updates
- Schedule and prepare materials for team meetings
- Recruit outstanding female journalists from newsrooms or freelancers to join WanaData
- Assist immediate supervisor and programme lead as needed
